Often, the beliefs and values that propel us towards a happy life can potentially impede our growth. What once served as our guiding mindset may now confine us, as we cling to outdated patterns simply because they’re familiar and we learnt that they were effective in the past. We use a Reset Technique to help you break these barriers and move forward. Read on to find out more.
One significant obstacle to shedding these old ways is our reluctance to embrace change. Fear plays a pivotal role, compelling us to pre emptively tackle potential problems and remain in a perpetual state of vigilance. Whilst this mindset may seem prudent, it keeps us perpetually on edge, trapped in a constant state of readiness, known as fight or flight. In this heightened state, our cognitive faculties suffer, leaving us unable to think clearly or perform at our peak capacity and we can succumb to exhaustion.
I have come across this with mums of small children, where they believe that to be a good mother they must protect their children from anything that could potentially harm them. Sounds reasonable, but when that reaches a level where the child can’t play outside incase, they hurt themselves, it is impinging on the child’s development. The fear that the child could seriously hurt themselves keeps the mother in a state of heightened vigilance.
It usually started from a good place, where the mothers’ maternal instincts were to protect her child. However, something changed. In one situation I worked with a mother who had a niece that was seriously injured when playing outside. To protect her child, she became extremely vigilant. Over time this became an obsession and the mother was living in constant fear that something was going to happen to her child.
In this situation we were able to work on the emotion around her niece being seriously injured. Using my Reset Technique, we reduced the emotional impact of that trigger, the mother was able to go back to being safely vigilant without it taking over her life. She was always going to protect her child but now she could life her life without the constant fear.
